The Book We're Reading = Life

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the "present." - Master Oogway

I'm not sure how many of you have thought about the current moment we're in, but I'd like you to suspend your preconceptions for a moment and just go with me on this ride. We've been told from an early age that we are going to die, that we are dying even as you read this, that the only appointment we'll never miss is the one we have with death. And then others expound on what happens after this event, but I'm not going into that, but I touch on it to point out the fear that is created from this frame of thinking. WE ARE A SOCIETY CONSTRUCTED ON FEAR. Now I'll do something rare and quote the Bible, because it just so happens to coincide with what I'm wanting to convey here:
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18

So what? Fear and love cannot coexist, blah blah blah yadda yadda, what's the point I'm trying to make here? Here's the thing, I want to present you with something that may give you some comfort from the fear. Our entire lives are spent in a state of fear (will I die, will I lose my job, will my spouse be angry, will I make enough money to pay the bills this month, etc.) and for what purpose? Well, hopefully there is reason to it all, and here's my best explanation for it:

Imagine for a moment that you're consciousness is expanded to include every moment of your entire life. Every moment that's ever happened, every moment you have yet to experience, it's all written down like in a book. However, the human mind (conscious mind) we have allows us to only experience one moment at a time, thus creating the illusion of time and choice and allows us the gift of mystery. This "book" was written before we ever even came here, and the purpose as best as I can discern is that these are the things our higher self/soul wanted to experience first hand in order to grow spiritually.

When I tell people this they often get upset and think "What's the point of any of this if there is no free will and everything is already preset?" This of course is the wrong attitude to take towards this, because there is free will on the soul level, but here there is not. All the decisions were already made by our soul selves and now we're experiencing the story unfold. Masterfully scripted, the book of our lives allow us to determine exactly what our souls need in order to move on / advance / evolve. By incarnating into the story we've created, we are free to experience the emotions, the tragedies, the exciting moments for ourselves.

Think for a moment how much you can really take away from a book that you've read. We can become attached to characters, somewhat understanding where they are coming from but never truly understand what they are thinking, feeling, experiencing first hand. That's the purpose of this life, we are injecting ourselves into the story that we wrote beforehand and experiencing it one moment at a time. It's actually pretty brilliant if you think about it, to create the illusion of choice yet retain the preset is an amazing feat.

So what I'm presenting to you here is that everything is already written, you're a reader of your own book, your own life's story, and because you are in it you get the opportunity to experience it first hand. Does the story suck? Maybe! But every experience we go through prepares us for the next, so for the whole story to make sense, the back story (ie. the worst of times) is necessary for us to endure in order to appreciate the end of the story to it's fullest.

Setting aside promises of afterlife, and viewing just this life as a book of choices that you made before you were even born, do you feel you have anymore hope or at least contentment with the situation you've found yourself in? I'm not going to delve into what happens after death in this blog, because I want you to realize that you've chosen all of this, and while it's sometimes hard and we want to end it, the show must go on. Try your best to enjoy even the tragedies, understanding that your "loss" was a decision that was made by all parties affected before any of us even came here, so try to learn as much as you can. Choose love, and release the fear, and you will find your growth here can be limitless. :)

Cheers
